But how will such a global event affect both residents and travelers wishing to spend their holiday at that exact time ? What do you really need to know about the 2019 G7 Summit in Biarritz ? KEYWEEK tells you everything you need to know !
2019 G7 Summit in Biarritz August 24-26
First announced in June 2018 during the last G7 Summit in Canada, the 2019 G7 Summit will be presided by France and will be held in Biarritz from August 24th to the 26th, 2019. Heads of States of the world’s 7 biggest economic countries, as well as many partners, organizations and not-for-profit will therefore gather in the European’s Surfing capital.
It’s no surprise that everyone in Biarritz will definitely feel the presence of all delegations ! It’s a major international event gathering the United States of America, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and the European Union. Furthermore, this event will draw attention to our beautiful town. And consequently, it will of course change a little bit our daily lives as residents and travelers during these 3 days of discussions.
But do not worry ! Even if all eyes will be on Biarritz’s city center for these few days, Biarritz’s life won’t stop nevertheless !
2019 G7 Summit : What will be discussed ?
The 2019 G7 Summit will be focused on one particular objective : fighting against inequality. Similarly, other discussion topics during France’s Presidency for the G7’s 45th Summit will be : climate and biodiversity, Africa, digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI). Finally, other topics will be covered such as the overhauling of the G7’s format with civil society mobilization.
Security deployment for the weekend in Biarritz center
As a result, a major security deployment will be done in Biarritz city center. It’s essential to welcome safely all heads of states, journalists and security services !
This isn’t unusual, it’s a normal procedure for this type of event ! For this reason, Biarritz has defined 2 zones at the summit site :
- ZONE 1 (in red) : the whole coastline from the Fishermen Port to Biarritz Lighthouse. The city Casino, Hotel du Palais, Bellevue Casino and City hall… This is where meetings and discussions will take place. They will therefore be under close surveillance during these 3 days.
- ZONE 2 (in blue) : the rest of town, from Rocher de la Vierge to the main roads.
