From Anglet to Bilbao, the Basque Coast stretches along the Atlantic coastline ! Windswept and as the tides rise and fall, our beautiful Basque region attracts travelers and visitors who want to enjoy the ocean’s benefits and the lovely Basque countryside. Whether you are spending a long weekend on the Basque Coast or you are just passing through, our KEYWEEK team gives you a few itinerary ideas to spend 3 lovely days on the Basque Coast !

Day 1 on the Basque Coast : Biarritz – Guéthary

Enjoy the ocean view from your KEYWEEK holiday rental in Biarritz to wake up slowly. From your balcony or your terrace, breathe the sea breeze and be ready to discover the Basque Coast !

What should you expect from spending 3 days on the Basque Coast ? A lovely time and beautiful landscapes ! Exploring the town of Biarritz is rather easy as it’s a small town and everything is within walking distance. If the weather and the temperature allow it, start your day with a swim in the ocean, a surf or yoga session. You can’t get better than that !

From the Côte des Basques beach, drive South towards the small village of Bidart. Take the pulse of this lovely Basque town : the city hall square, the fronton (Basque pelota wall), the small chapel overlooking the ocean !

Why don’t you take the opportunity to walk a few minutes along the coastal path all the way to Guéthary ? You just need to go along the Basque Coast until you reach the small fisherman village of Guéthary. If there are waves, it will be hard for you not to stare at the surfers riding the impressive world famous wave of Parlementia

Day 2 on the Basque Coast : Saint-Jean-de-Luz –Ascain

Continue your trip on the Basque Coast towards the former city of pirates : Saint-Jean-de-Luz ! Its historic background and pedestrian city center make it a lovely city to visit. Take a break at one of Saint-Jean-de-Luz’s delicious restaurants (if you need advice on where to eat, simply ask us !), or dip your toes in the thin sand of Saint-Jean-de-Luz’s Bay. A swim is necessary for both kids and parents ! Or scale the heights at Sainte-Barb Point to observe the bay, the breathtaking views over the Basque mountains and Socoa’s fort.

If you have the time to escape the Basque Coast, make your way to the small village of Ascain at the Rhune’s foothill. The scenic road from Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Ascain is lovely to take ! And for those who like to hike, there are many accessible hiking trails around Ascain !

Day 3 on the Basque Coast : The Coastal Road – Hondarribia

Spend 3 days on the Basque Coast and discover the coastline South of Saint-Jean-de-Luz which you visited the day before. Embark upon the stunning Coastal Road (Corniche) along the coastline between Socoa and Hendaye. The panoramic views are absolutely stunning. On one side, the endless Atlantic Ocean, on the other side the Basque countryside and the mountains in the backdrop. There are worst views ! Take the time to stop on the side of the road to appreciate the natural show. You can even walk along the coastal path of the Basque Coast for a few minutes to take it all in.

If you have the time, KEYWEEK strongly recommends you to go further into the Basque Coast on the other side of the Spanish border, to reach the small fortified village of Hondarribia (Fontarrabie in French) at the foothill of the Jaizkibel mountain. A gem to explore for the fine food lovers and those who like small fishermen village’s medieval history !

You will see it will be hard to leave after these three days on the Basque Coast ! No worries, you can always extend your stay if you want to, you just have to give us the green light… 🙂
